Czech-based dreamers DIV I DED have created a sound as cozy as that afternoon nap. Their weightless pop is powerful and Born To Sleep is an album not to pass you by. Spearheaded by the duties of multi-instrumentalist Filip Helštýn and vocalist Viktorie Marksová, their simple and elegant style is walking out into the morning and breathing fresh air. You hear something like “No Light” and the crystalline of the guitar notes, powered by a lethargic beat and low-key vocal meanderings, you suddenly feel like laying down on your bedroom floor and just soaking up the song. The chorus is exalted like a beautiful statement. And then at the end, there is so much layered noise that it sucks you up and spits you out into a vortex where you think about what you just listened to long after the song is over.

The stand out single, “Late Awakening,” is a wondrous affair of garage rock antics and shoegaze metamorphosis. This is alternative the way alternative music should be: intelligent, metaphysical, and swooning. The group makes these subtle touches within their music that it becomes an eye opener when you realize the extra effort they go through to make Born To Sleep more enthralling without being blatant and pretentious.

“Electric Age” is like a lo-fi version of T Rex and Big Star all wrapped into one; a homage to the ‘70s songs that blew your mind and made you infatuated with the bands who made the music just as much as the music themselves.

DIV I DED are much like superheroes. Their ability to affect mood while maintaining style is powerful, and you can throw on any song from this album and mutually feel the same. Born To Sleep hits the spot!
